My First Cricket Match!!!

...with Manoj words...

An awesome day of cricket in not so awesome weather ! Those who made it had fun, those who did not.. well, I am sure you had good reasons.

Updates from the date-

15 people showed up, give or take !! In all we played 3 completed matches. We could not get a 1st year vs 2nd year match going for the want of first year students. But we did get a very exciting India vs the Rest of the world match in.

A quick commentary on that..

India batted first. Adriaan, the extremely fast Dutch bowler (who would have thought right?) had India reeling at 4 for 3 in no time. India fought back against a very threatening pace attack comprising Adriaan, Jerry, Shehereyar, Asif & Faisal with a steady partnership between Saurabh Malpani and Surya Mohan and some late hitting by Vivek. India ended with about 55 in 7 overs.

Batting second, RoW was in a fairly good shape going into the last 3 overs where they needed less than 18 runs to win. A couple of tight overs by Vivek and Anuj Rastogi (I think) and the pressure was completely on RoW who needed 9 in the last over. Then came the “Malinga’esk” over from lanky paceman Vivek Yaratapalli. Pinpoint accurate bowling and a couple of searing Yorkers later, he had taken 4 (or was it 3?) wickets and won India the match !!

Long story short… India..Winning !!

Special mention for Stefania Vele, the Italian awesomeness who played her first cricket game today and made an immediate impact by taking a nice little catch dismissing Surya.

Special mention for Priya Patel who also played her first cricket match today. She didn’t take any catch but she fielded like a tigress. Has anyone seen a tigress field? Me neither. I am sure they do alright !!

And a special mention for rockstar Genisha.. just… here is looking at you kid ;-)

Cheers

P.S.- If I misreported some facts, I do apologize. I blame the frigid weather.

Subject: Details for Cricket tomorrow

Ladies and Gents,

You’ve all signed up for cricket tomorrow, so just wanted to give you a couple more details about tomorrow’s game:

Time and Venue: between 9.30 am & 3 pm at St. Vartans park, 2nd Ave and East 35th street.

1. Please bring any equipment you may have (balls, bats, wickets (those three brown sticks you see on a pitch)..)

2. We’ll start playing at 10am. PLEEEEEEEASE don’t arrive on brown timeJ, I know you will be hungover but we only have the field till 3. Also rocking up late screws up the matches if we have to continuously add new members.

3. Even if there is a little rain, we’ll still play.

4. We have about 35 people, less the usual who back out I’m guessing we’ll have about to 25ppl. Whatever the number is, we’ll make sure that everyone gets enough play time

5. And to my dear first year chaps, even though you need a lesson in cricket, no you won’t get a second chance to bat when Sheri bowls you out first ball…

Excited to play tomorrow!

Enjoy your Friday,

Cheers!

Jerry
