Day 1 - Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs

This early morning we flew to Panama City (Panama), and from there to San Josè (Costa Rica). Everyone was so excited...our first Spring break is ready to go!
Today after the landing, we went directly to Arenal Volcano.
Arenal Volcano is one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world and on almost a daily basis, red-hot rocks crash down its steep slopes and volcanic grumbles produce VERY huge ash columns above the crater (we could barely see the sky!).
We had a long walk along the face of the volcano, which is covered by a pluvial forest. A local guide explained to us all the secrets of this beautiful place (e.g., the fact that some leaves can have mind-expanding effect due to the essence that contaminated them after eruptions...)

After this 2-hour walk we definitely needed a rest...a visit at Baldi Hot Springs really helped us in this! :-) The Baldi Hot Springs are the most expansive hot spring facilities in the Arenal Volcano area.
There were many different walking paths and gardens, and there wass a combination of large and small pools with cascading waterfalls. The cold pools were very enjoyable after sitting in the neighboring hot ones!!! :-)
We spent there about 2 hours and then we had dinner togheter (included in entrance fee).
